Being my first post, lets start with the simple explanation: This is a personal blog about beautiful pictures and expressive words. Different people see life differently and rightfully so; this journal is about my own perspective of life and its varied components.
So does this blog consist of more of the same? Maybe not…
That however was a basic description of the DNA of this journal, and if you’re content with reading just the lines above, then this blog may or may not be for you.
My decision to indulge in this journal is a personal one born out of a deep desire to share my views on everything that I believe, can inspire. Using imagery and words as my expression, albeit from an aesthete’s viewpoint, the intent is to touch upon Fashion, Art, Photography, Food, Travel, People, Places, Spaces, Design, Architecture, Philosophy, Nature… in fact upon all things that imbibe style and in turn stimulate any or all of the 5 human senses (taste, sight, touch, smell, and hearing) and more importantly (and hopefully) the spirit itself. It is also perhaps a selfish attempt to rediscover as many simple joys as I can and then selflessly share them with all who care enough to listen. It may seem to some that I am a wandering nomad (which indeed I am and a Royal one at that!), but within me, there also rests an undying spectator and avid storyteller, one who believes in a special kind of magic that I believe is created when visuals and words flit together to narrate an honest truth.
To share is important…be it information, knowledge, time, love, friendship or just about anything that could connect us in some way to another person. In fact, sharing, I believe, may well be the most effective solution to fill the voids between humanity itself. Surprisingly (and unknown to most of us), every single one of us possesses something unique inside of us, longing to be shared… something that has the ability to touch deep and sometimes, even evoke change for the better. In fact, any positive change (small or big being irrelevant) is perhaps the most gratifying outcome of this simple exchange.
We also live in a world where every contradiction possible co-exists… the good with the bad, the happy with the sad, day with night, man with woman, war with peace… there’s no getting away from all that surrounds us. Yet, as we go about our hurried existence on a day to day basis, it is also important to remember that we are also blessed with LIFE, the only reality that embraces us every single moment and sadly, also the one that we most take for granted. Simplistically put, Life keeps gifting us choices and opportunities, and our reaction to them eventually determines how WE end up choosing to see the world.
Which brings me to the name of this journal: JJ ALEPH. I don’t think I need to explain the first part but ALEPH needs a very special mention.
Aleph is the first letter of the Semitic abjads, including Phoenician: ‘Ālep , Hebrew: ‘Ālef א, Aramaic: Ālap 𐡀, Syriac: ʾĀlap̄ ܐ, Arabic: Alif ا, and Persian. The numerical value assigned to Aleph is one. Aleph symbolically represents the link between infinite God and finite man. It is also believed that Aleph combines the divine, the spiritual and the physical world. This unification has been a core belief of mine for several years now.
For me personally, this journal is also a first…it is a new beginning born out of a sincere resolve to find as much beauty and joy as i can in everything that exists around me. I am also aware that it will demand that I be vulnerable enough; for any mortal attempt to conjoin the material and the spiritual into a singular language (and yet keep it light and relevant), to surrender is an absolute must. A tall order, some might say, but not impossible to achieve if the spirit is buoyant enough.
Finally, no journal (or blog as it is better known today) can ever be complete without an appreciative and responsive audience; so it is my sincere hope that I am able to reach out to as many of you as I can… share as much as I can… as honestly and as candidly as I can, for us, together, to become indispensible links in the chain of kindred spirits who just happened to discover each other during this undeniably beautiful journey we all call Life.
